CHARITY CHAMPIONSHIPS - SATURDAY 19TH MAY 2018

Two London Netball umpires are joining forces with a Netball coaching charity in Uganda this summer to teach young boys and girls how to play netball. As part of this tour they will also train local Netball coaches to create a lasting legacy of school children learning and enjoying Netball in some of the poorest areas in Uganda.

Netball Development Trust (NDT) is a UK charity that delivers netball at grass roots in less developed countries, allowing children the freedom to play and have fun. They work with schools and projects in the community to help young people become players, leaders, coaches and officials of the future. They use netball as a tool to bring communities together and through Netball encourage gender equality. The charity also trains local organisations to deliver 'sexual and reproductive health' awareness and focuses on female sexual health.

Over the course of three weeks Anna Cottle and Suzanne Jenkin will be working with girls and boys in Uganda by means of coaching netball, mentoring one-on-one, and supporting classes for sexual health awareness. The trip will start in the remote village of Fort Portal. They will then do a joint coaching week in the Jinja area and end by visiting partnership projects to offer support.

Anna and Suzanne are raising money to provide netballs, bibs, whistles, coaching aides, rule books, netball nets and other required essentials for schools. They are also very keen to put money into purchasing sanitary towels, so girls can continue to go to school, and play netball, whilst on their periods.

The Charity Championships Tournament will take place from 2-4pm on Saturday 19th May at St Pancras Community Association in Central London. The tournament will offer ladies teams the opportunity to play in an exciting competition as well as win mega tournament and raffle prizes. Do you and your team think you've got what it takes?
